This assignment is designed to have you look at the world through the eyes of an ant. We all tend to stick to doing things the way we have always done them - and that includes photography. This assignment will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your creativity by seeing the world in an unnatural way - like an ant.
Of course we know that the ant is tiny, so your first reaction will probably be to look up at subjects.
However, you must include at least two photos showing other approaches that might be more symbolic or interpretive, for example:

Of course we know that the ant is tiny, so your first reaction will probably be to look up at subjects.
However, you must include at least two photos showing other approaches that might be more symbolic or interpretive, for example:
- Think of an ant’s diet. How might a tiny ant look at a table full of goodies?
- What are the ant’s natural enemies - how might the tiny ant see/react to a predator?
The key to performing this assignment well is to utilize two specific styles: Macro and Ground Level Photography
There is a huge difference in perspective as well as increased intimidation for the ant in the photo on the right rather than the left. Bringing the camera down to the level at which an ant would see the bunny creates a more impactful image and result for the viewer.
Look how much more appetizing these crumbs look when using macro mode vs. shooting straight down at them from a person's height.
Task: You will need to come up with 5 (2 every day life shots, 1 food shot, 2 predator shots) final images – all representing the concept of the ant’s point of view in one way or another. Your images will then be organized into a Contact Sheet.

Part 2:
Choose your favourite photo that you took out of the 5 submissions. You will be talking about that photo to the class discussing the following details:
We will then open up the discussion to the class so they can offer suggestions as well. This practise is great as all photographers strive to edit their own work, constantly re-visiting their photos to look for elements of improvement and looking for outside opinion. It is incredibly rare that a photographer will take a photo, and submit it to their employers without analyzing it on their own or with a group of fellow photographers. It's important as well to know what works in a photo in order to reproduce similar results or demonstrate improvement for future assignments
